Caring for your skin makes you feel good about yourself, live better and slow the signs of aging. 1. Hydration is Key
Potentially, one of the most effective techniques of skin care is drinking water Everyday many people are advised to drink about 7-8 glasses of water, and this is not just for the health of skin. One can hydrate oneself both internally and externally by drinking a lot of water. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Moreover, one can add more water containing foods in the diet like cucumber, oranges, and watermelon to increase the water intake in the body.
2. Follow a Balanced Diet
Diet also greatly affects the skin; hence, there is the saying, ‘you are what you eat’. Try to consume the portions of fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats into your diet. Berries, nuts, and green leafy vegetables make foods which are nourishing and assist in protecting the skin from free radicals that increase oxidation stress. Proteins and omega-3 fatty acid present in fish, flaxseeds and walnuts which are good for our skin as they increase skin elasticity and skin moisture content.
3. Cleanse Your Skin Properly
Hygiene is very important when it comes to skin care especially washing of the skin. Select a mild soap for your skin type, wash your face, face morning and at night before going to bed. It helps to wash out excess debris on the skin’s surface including oil, dirt, and makeup, and this reduces pore blockages and pimples. Do not use hot water as it will remove the skin natural oils; thus, it is recommended to use warm water.
4. Exfoliate Regularly
A process such as exfoliating helps in removal of the dead skin cells hence enhancing the turnover of the skin cells underlying such layer hence making the skin to appear healthier. Apply a mild scrub in turns at least once a week, preferably twice a week depending on the skin type. It is also important not to overdo it with the scrubbing as this can lead to skin inflammation and weakening of the outer layer of skin. There are chemical exfoliants which contains alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) that can be beneficial.
5. Moisturize Daily
Hydration or moisturizing is considered imperative because it helps to keep skin moist and intact and functioning as a barrier. Select a cream as per the nature of the skin whether it is oily or dry skin or possess the features of both or possesses sensitive skin. Products containing hyaluronic acid and glycerin is recommended as well as products containing ceramides because they keep the skin moisturized.
6. Wear Appropriate Protective Clothing When Going Out in the Sun
Protection from the sun is vital to avoid early signs of aging and to minimize possibilities of getting skin cancer. Wear a good broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 for protection every day even for cloudy days. If you are outside, it is recommended to reapply the product after every 2 hours. Also, protect skin with clothing that covers most of the skin like hats and sunglasses, and avoid going out between 10 AM and 4 PM.
7. Get Enough Sleep
It is very important to maintain proper rest, that is sleep, for the general health and wellbeing and not to forget skin. It is recommended to get at least 7-9 hours of good sleep to wake up with bright and healthy skin.
8. Manage Stress
